BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATIONS

Genesis 40:20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

Matthew 14:6 But when Herod's birthday was kept; the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. The bible recorded birthday celebration in two different books in the bible and sadly enough the two ended in the death of a person. Some Christian denominations believe these deaths are too much to be called a coincidence and therefore, think there is a spirit associated with the celebration, which is not godly and so believers should shun birthdays. And most importantly, they say, Jesus never asked his birthday to be celebrated, but commanded his disciples and followers to observe the lord supper see 1 Corinthians 11:25, After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. They believe Jesus could not have overlooked his birthday if it was important for believers to do a remembrance. Indeed, birthday celebration has nothing to do with our spiritual growth and most times it is gratifying fleshy desires. See Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. We all will admit that the definition of a good celebration is women and wine, otherwise many will tell you it was boring. But birthdays can be a time to show gratitude to God, how far have made progress in life as adult, measure how far we have grown in the lord and whether we are “occupying till He comes”,. See Psalms 90:12, so teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. It can also be a time to invite neighbors and tell them what we believe and the reasons for our beliefs, and why we think it is important that all should believe. [Channel for evangelism] It is not scripturally stated that celebration of birthdays is associated with death; let us not forget that the personalities mentioned in the bible were not believers and they introduced debaucheries. We, as believers, can also introduce praise, testimonies, prayers, and tasteful meals.
