The ibo youth and the northern youth of Nigeria spoiling for war
1 Kings
12:16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto
them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in
David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to
your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel
departed unto their tents.
Genesis 49:6 O my soul, come not
thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honor, be not thou
united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self will
they digged down a wall. , Bible KJV
Youths are prune to anger, violence and
exuberance. Only few can restrain themselves. Many are believed
'violent'. Most times. when the result of their momentary anger is
assessed, a lot of irreversible damaged is left in its aftermath
like the above biblical passage.
The message was ominously chilling ,
'All people of the south east leaving in the northern states of
Nigeria are to leave within the next three months. It was issued by a
coalition of northern youths group. More foreboding is the fact that
the warning was issued at a popular building, Arewa house in Kaduna.
Thereby giving the impression Nigerians that the meeting had the
blessings of the northern elders. The Kaduna state Governor, Nasir el
Rufai was quick to rise to the occasion. He promptly issued an arrest
warrant to those youth while condemning the unauthorized ultimatum.
Four days after, the police force
said it had launched a manhunt for the leaders of the group known
as Coalition of Northern Youth Groups that warned the Igbo to
leave the Northern part of Nigerian within three months, no member
of the group has been arrested. To add salt to injury, the
Northern elders forum, NEF, were swift to throw in their support
to the northern youth. The inspector general of police, Nigeria,
Ibrahim Idris has tried to allay the fears of the Southerners
Leaving in these areas, but is it enough?. This is now like a time
bomb with no one coming out to say the way forward. While the
ominous dust was yet to settle, the Northern youth, recognizing
that the news has created a lots of accusations and comments had
countered by saying where were the leaders of the igbos when a
communique was issued by indigenous people of Biafra, Ipob that
there should be a stay at home on may,30,20017. However, they,
have maintained that the ultimatum is no call for violence, but a
chance to allow the igbos actualize their dream of having their
own country , carve out of the present geographical region known
as Nigeria. Should we believe their insistence that it is not a
call to violence or possible pogrom in the making?
Come to think of it how come a
relatively unknown Nigerian of Igbo decent, never have been in
politics have no known pedigree that have been suddenly rose up
from U,k where he abodes and stirs up agitation for a republic of
Biafra? I doubt if he was born during the time of the civil war.
Even if he was born he must have been a toddler who never knew
what was going on. If I am to concur with the northern youths
where are the big politicians? Where are those who fought the
civil war ? Where are those who lost loved ones, houses and
properties while the war lasts? It is high time they speak up,
indeed, I concur with the northern youths. The Igbo leaders should
rise up and caution these few youth bent on stirring up war. Have
they thought how many northerners resides in the plush places in
the east? How many have big investments and big corporations in
the east? Those you see are those doing menial jobs like herdsmen
and gate keepers. But go to the north and see the igbos doing
great and living in affluence in the north. We agree that the average Ibo man is quite industrious and hardworking, but If there should be war
would they be compelled to uproot their magnificent houses and carrying
them to the already congested east? Again, there is no part of the
entity known as Nigeria without an Igbo man . Even in my village ,
they are there, living in peace with the villagers while making a living as hunters, palm wine tappers and farm hands. 'The Kanus' of this time should let these ones be and allow them to continue to dwell in peaceful coexistence with the natives as Nigerians.
No one can give an answer to
these questions and the police force in Nigeria today, can not be
relied upon to ensure the safety of lives and property.
It is pertinent to note that the
command in-chief of the armed forces is sadly out of the country
for medical reasons. The question agitating all is whether these
youths are only acting the script handed to them by the Elders in the Northern states? It is sad
to know that most of these youths, indeed, all were not born when
the Biafra war of 1967-1970 . Those beating the drums of
war must realize that war is no joke. For a country like Nigeria
if it happens again ,even the conflagration and the heat will
scotch those leaving far from its shore, needless to say, what took
place in 1967 will look like a child's play. I therefore,
want to call on all stake holders in the northerner states
possible led by the Sultan of Sokoto to call these youths full of
exuberance to order, because when it starts many will not leave to
tell the story thereafter. That is war. I think some one has not
been watching television of recent. Please get informed about the
current state of Syria. Let us not forget Sudan. Pictures from
the genocide that happened in Rwanda still makes one shudder. I
want these youth to know that those supporting them have already
created an exit point for their family to be ferried out of the
country before the staccato of guns stats to reign. When there is
war anything evil goes and every thing good stops. Need I add that
what you see in Syria today will be a small fry.
Those lingering on the corner,
wanting to sell their arms are just watching with keen interest,
but they will wait for ever if a dialogue is allowed between the
north and the southeast leaders of thoughts. Those agitating for
Biafra and the embittered northern youths should please bury the
hatchets for the sake of all Nigerians. Our politicians and ex
presidents should please wade into this ugly situation too and
treat it with the seriousness it deserves. Followed by our
religious leaders. Let us preach and make conspicuously clear in
our messages the evils in war . Television and radio commentators should flood the airwaves about the evils of War, stickers should be designed supporting peace and no war. logos should read, 'we are one Nigeria for ever'. Teachers in all institution of learning must voice it in their classes.
It is high time we start
interceding for the nation called Nigeria. Let us start seeing
what unites us . There is no Utopia society in the world, those
who commits crimes pays for it irrespective of tribe or class. Let
us dethrone tribalism in all its ramifications and see ourselves
as Nigerians before our ethnic orientation. Let us all carry this
campaign in social media in whatever form you can pass the
message.
Do not let this Nation die.
Long live the Nation Nigeria.
Will be seeing you.
