REFUND MY OFFERINGS SINCE 1998 TO 2017

Acts 5:4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why Hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Thou Hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

A man has written a letter to his church, demanding a refund of all the offerings he contributed to the church for the 19 years he attended the church,

Dishon Kinyanjui Kinuthia, a Kenyan Christian, took to Twitter to share the letter he wrote to his church while warning that there will be consequences if he doesn’t get a refund.

Dishon, who used to attend Revival Mission Church, Kabete, in Nairobi, said he was a member from 1997 to 2018 when he left the church.

Dishon, who used to attend Revival Mission Church, Kabete, in Nairobi, said he was a member from 1997 to 2018 when he left the church.

He asked that the church refunds the sum of 58,000 KES which is his estimate of his contribution to the church over two decades.

He said the contributions he made to the church were not “voluntary” but was done under “undue influence, duress, and intimidation.”

He asked the church to deposit the money in his account by November 31, 2020, or he will start legal proceedings.

There is absolutely nothing new under the sun. There are hardly any acts of men today that has no no reference in the bible. When you are conversant with the bible, an avid reader of the scripture you understand that the callousness of men and the fickle minded nature in man will always play out when it finds a place. The reaction of the church and the elders must be humility to ask the Lord where they must have missed it… for it takes time for a man to become reprobate after it has found salvation. Dishon Kinyanjui Kinuthia did not give us a specific instance where he was under pressure to give. The bible admonishes us how to give and specifically mention not to give under pressure.2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Then again, Dishon must have a locus standi in a law court. Proving he was under duress will be his onus. The church is an organisation which he joined and he knows it takes funds to run any organisation and he gave like every other member to run the church administratively. the church asking for funds is not against their belief, but part of their belief as an organisation.

Regardless of the ridiculous lengths some church leaders go these days to squeeze out money from their members, it’s up to the person to decide if he’d let them get anything from him. Like apostle peter told Ananias in the Acts 5:4, Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why Hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Thou Hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

So let him not bother wasting time, effort and even more money to press any charges because none of the reasons he listed here would hold water in a law court.

Perhaps we all are missing something we are looking at a soul has backslided and his love for the things of God has wax cold. Here is a man who needs our love and prayers, not condemnations and scoldings.
