Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. It behooves the congregation to make sure that the atmosphere and the persons are fit for his presence. The able leader in the old testament, Joshua, once told the people: Joshua 3:5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you. Therefore, the number one prerequisite to receiving the Lord’s presence is sanctification of ourselves. Wonders, miracles, healings and breakthroughs can not happen in the mists of sins and iniquity. A gathering without the presence of God is a mere; it will be devoid of the Dunamis. As faces are different, so are the needs of church goers therefore, the church ministers must do all that is needful to bring down God’s presence. Because God is light and there is no darkness in him, all works of darkness that may have followed an individual to the church will give way; for light and darkness cannot occupy the same space. Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Thanks be the lord our saviour that he did the sanctification for the church, but sanctification like our salvation must be ‘work out’, continually, even though it has been done for us through the death on the cross. Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. If a church wants the presence of God, which brings about miracles, wipes our tears and get relieve , there is a need for the parishioners to purge themselves from whatever they know will be a hindrance to God’s coming before venturing into the house of God. In the old testament whenever God wants to visit, the people are told to sanctify themselves. Read Joel 1:14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD. Read Joshua 7:13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you. If there is sin in us, it becomes a hindrance to our blessing. One man can stop the flow of the spirit of God in the church. remember Achan who stole and brought about the defeat of the children of Israel in the battle of Ai. praying and confession of sin before the inception of the service is another option: we ask God for the forgiveness of our sins and the forgiveness of those who have sinned against us. The other way of creating a conducive atmosphere fit for His presence is worship and songs of praise. Our praise, when done whole heartedly, can bring down the presence of God . Worship can move him to speak to his church or the individual. Let the church praise him and see the atmosphere assume a spiritual facade that makes you feel God is here . God comes down when the right atmosphere is created through sanctifications, praise, and worship. The devil desires to create an atmosphere of despair, melancholy, and hopelessness. Satan creates situations around people in the church that keep them within a ceiling that they can not break out. Isaiah 55:12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Psalms 107:32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. The place for those that of heavy heart and depressed is the church of God. Psalms 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. Psalms 148:1-4 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. When your church do these, no one will go home the same. Sanctification, praise and worship when it is an integral part of fellowship make it worthwhile; an experience you want to have again. A Koinonia. Maranatha!
