That infamous slap

After I watched Will Smith’s slap on the unprotected face of Chris Rock, my first reaction was to wonder what the youth would say about this. I have two of them at home. Yes, they are young but i just have to know how what is thier opinion is based on this scenario vis-à-vis thier knowledge from the word of God.

From biblical times, men have always enjoyed taken delight in being in an audience, watching as one person /persons on a podium makes them laugh through his action. Let us see an example of this in the book of Judges 16:25, And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. That word “SPORT”, means to amuse. These were no believers in Jehovah, nor were they Christians in the new testament era. What a way for men to find mirth and laughter, to get pleasure from seeing others in pain. Am not here to tell you I am right. I do not have the moral ground to judge anybody and indeed we Christian do not judge anyone. nonmatter how much you zero in some aspect of what happened that faithful day, you can never get the entire word on your side. Opinion will always vary; some side with Will Smith and others with Chris Rock. Those in love with their wives, their homes would find it easy-to-understand Will Smith’s anger, and do not expect those who have suffered burnt from marital affairs to run to Smith’s either.

So, being a Christian, it is pertinent for us to know the work of a comedian. Simply put, a comedian is a person who seeks to entertain others by making them laugh through jokes, funny bodily movement or gyration, or making jest of others. These days is it noteworthy to know that the last definition is more common commonly associated with the trade. In 1 Peter 5:8 reads, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [KJV] This is an injunction to all christian and how thier disposition and comportment should reflect; sobriety and vigilance. Why? Because the devil will take advantage of us if we operate in anything short of this. Speaking further on, Apostle paul tells the christian in Ephesus not to take part in such jesting see Ephesians 5:4, Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. You would agree with me that most talk from comedians is nothing but jesting that are not convenient. There is no decency in making fun of a person, wife or children in order to make others laugh. We ought not to derive mirth from putting another in a corner.

If we must relief stress, Jesus is still the balm of Gilead and the Holy ghost is still a comforter.

Proverbs 26:19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

In the same vine, you could anger another, destroy homes, and follow the same line; Proverbs 26:19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?. I write to the Christians!

Remain under His wings!
