THE CALL FOR MASS PROTEST IN LAGOS AND ABUJA ON FEBRUARY , 6TH
Exodus 12:38 ** And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.
Numbers 11:4-6 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlicky: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
There ain't nothing wrong with protest against the government, or any large or even small cooperation, but the motive matters. For the Christian, please remember that your God weighs the motive, no matter how good the cause may be. Amongst those that will join the schedule protest Less than 3 percent of the total turn out will come from the North. 35 percent do no go to church, the rest belongs to one denomination or the other. Now tell me, have they prayed about it? Have they really prayed for the leaders of this great nation? whatever you are protesting about is not new in the country, it just got worse. In our haste to answer the call let us not forget our duty as Christians to our country; 1 Timothy 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
I am going to give reasons why I think the mass protest should be shelved
- Those calling for mass protest are not neutral; investigations shows benefitted largely from the previous government and campaign for same openly.
- Just one man is seen to have spearhead the movement . he may not have the clout to led a successful and peaceful protest.
- The prevailing mood is not conducive for a peaceful protest, a hungry man they say, is an angry man. There could be spill over to will led to destruction of private and public properties.
- Many leading figures are not told before hand, therefore, their advise was not sort. There are already spoilers waiting on the sidelines.
- A mass protest is quite different from a union protest. in union protest the leader is easily obeyed, but in mass protest this that is not so.
- Criminals may take advantage of the mass protest to rob shops and destroy cars, buses on their way.
- In a country like the Netherland, the police are involved to control the crowd, and clear vehicles and other obstacles from their way till their final destination and watch out till the end.
- In any large gathering there is always the need for security, that seems to be absent here as the police are even against the protest.
- What do you hope to get out of the protest? is this achievable by embarking on this protest? would a delegation to the presidency not be seen to be more matured?
- A governor in the opposition party has express his willingness to join. is this wise? how will the ruling party perceive the whole movement if this governor should join.?
