All quotations are from King James Version of the Bible.
Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Words of Jesus Christ, [KJV]
Any religion or ideology that does not advocate simplicity should be shunned by all. Most of man’s problems are tied to his inordinate desires for wealth, fame and power. We see it every day; we hear it every day. Greed screams at us and literally slap our faces if we dare to disobey it desires. The human race can well be defined as a creature that is inbuilt with covetousness, greed and avarice. Man’s insatiable pursuit of wealth is like a mirage that you can never catch. It is amazing that most religions that I have studied encourage a simple way of living, yet most adherents cherish an ostentatious way of living. But the question should be asked: why greed, covetousness and avarice are a way of life rather than simplicity? Here is the word of Christ; Matthew 19:24 and again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus here is telling us the way of life of the rich; for they are never satisfied, there is no stopping, there is never enough, it is an unending journey that keep them looking for more fame more money, more power, more winning Jesus defines this desire vividly in the book of Luke 12:16-20 And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, this will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. This is the way of life of the rich and famous; no matter the stupendous profit of the previous year, they want more and build more and sophisticated networks and cooperation to bring in more, forgetting that it will all end one day. The church of Christ, which has the mandate to remind all of us, like it is written in the book of Mark 8:36, For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? This above important message is mostly omitted because they[pastor, founders] are also birds of the same feather; they too are in the race for a mega church. A bigger structure with stage lights, a theatre that looks more like Hollywood rather than an altar, a stage for performance rather than a place to humble ourselves and meet God. [Many want to be a brand rather than preach Christ, and that brand includes universities, branches in western nations of the world, hip pastors that can bring in celebrities come to show off rather than encounter Christ; and to meet this goal, they preach a different message of “Give to God and be bless more, give to God and see you become the next billionaire.”] But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? The rich in his desire to be richer throw all caution to the wind when their interest is threatened. They guard thier empires with all thier might and do not mind sacrificng all others. many forget about God as they engage in their businesses for more profit. what the rich seems to forget is that all we acquire are left behind and none would go with us to the grave. The bible says of them in the book of 2 Corinthians 4:4, In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Again the word of Christ comes to mind in the book of Luke 12:15, and he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. House, mansions, castles, fleet of cars and flotilla of aircraft cannot make us satisfied as humans. No matter how vast your wealth is you want more and more. That which satisfies comes from Christ alone. John 4:14, But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. [KJV] Looking for peace, joy and happiness from material possessions is a fleeting experience that does not satisfy. When man places their joy, peace of mind on material things, he is in for a big disappointment for that which brings peace to man is from within see John 14:27, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Most men thinks material wealth means joy and happiness and having beauty women will make them experience the unspeakable joy, but when they find out after some years that it is not so the go again looking for another person who can bring back that joy, but this will only continue without end it is like chasing the wind. Peace of mind, joy does not depend on another human being or possessions. If you place such expectations on another man then you set yourself up for disappointment and place too much expectation on that man. Many are under locks and keys for preaching and yet they have peace and many are in palatial building and others in smart houses yet they do not have peace; the difference is the state of mind The bible forewarns us about this trap in the book of Psalms 146:3, put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
