WHAT IS REQUIRED[1]

At the beginning of every year, resolutions are made, many vows are taken before loved ones, before the mirror and others before the alters, but how many have what it takes to keep the vows and how many remember their resolutions thereafter? To carry out this change, many make their way to worship centres, thinking there is an aura and power that will help bring about the change they desire. Others stay at home too, also thinking better determination this time around will break the circle of “resolution and failing”, While others have come to a place where they just throw in the tower, after all, no one is perfect – adopt a stance of;” this- is- who- I- am”, accept me or leave me. Many habits , vices have affected marital relationships, personal relations and trust. A man once accused of pilfering with Ransome demanded by the kidnappers was once justified by his friend, who said that covetousness and greed are his weak points. Therefore, his thievish and dishonest attitude should be condoned because no one is perfect. Yet, when the tables are turned, these same people who make excuses for these social vices will be the ones to cry fowl. No one is perfect indeed, that is why the Jesus uttered the famous words in John 8:7,So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. Here, because Jesus was not condoning sin, he obviously was pointing out the hypocrisy in man; he was saying as we do much to point out the weakness in others, we ought to first look at ourselves. And His final judgment was John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. But if it were that easy, our Lord himself would not have reason to come to earth, take the shameful place of sin for us all. The way out is pointed out in the book of Jeremiah 10:23, O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. The apostle Peter found this out with much regret and tears, when the Lord told him he was going to betray him before the cock crow he rejected Jesús’s prediction and said he will never thereby relying on his own power and will: most personal battles we face requires more than our will power to overcome. We try, but soon still go back to our own vomit, we vow only to renege our vows, we are determined never to go back to the club where we spend all [salary/wages] only to go broke, busted and disgusted soon.
