LADY PAID 1 MILLION NAIRA TITHE FROM FRAUD PROCEED IN NIGERIA
Ikogwe was on Monday arraigned before Justice E.A. Obile for a total fraud of N179 million. [over one hundred and seventy thousands dollars]
She was charged with two companies, used as vehicles for the fraud, Elites Finance Investment Limited and Efinc Global Investment Limited, The EFCC arraigned them on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and getting money by false pretence contrary to Section 1(1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.The woman is said to have used the sum of N139,704,097 of the N179 million to play sports betting and also paid a tithe of N1 million to a church in Port Harcourt. One of the counts against the defendants read: "That you [name withheld[], Elites Finance Investment Limited and Efinc Global Investment Limited sometime in 2019 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N179,326,386.62 by inducing unsuspecting members of the public to invest with your companies: Elites Finance Investment Limited and Efinc Global Investment Limited, assuring them under a false pretence of making 15% interest on all investment made, a representation you knew to be false,
and there by committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act."
The sitting judge ordered that she be remanded in prosecution's custody and adjourned the matter till October 19 for determination of the bail application.
It is noteworthy that this comes on the hills of a popular pastor who said that those who do not pay their tithe are under a curse. Port Harcourt, where the accused lives, is one of Nigeria's leading industrial centres. The Trans-Amadi Industrial Estate, 4 miles (6 km) north, is a 2,500-acre (1,000-hectare) site where tires, aluminum products, glass bottles, and paper are manufactured. The town also manufactures cigarettes, steel structural products, corrugated tin, paints, plastics, enamelware, wood and metal furniture, cement, concrete products, and several other goods. Nigeria's first oil refinery (1965) is at Alesa-Eleme, 12 miles (19 km) southeast.
The question on everyone's lips is whether it exempts this woman from such a curse. This has also called to question if parishioners are being lured into crimes by the preaching from the pulpits on Sundays. A sound pulpit produces an honest, hardworking, diligence and contented man on the street; it is the pulpit that makes the man on the pew. Godliness exhorts a nation, and the sin brings a reproach it brings comes in: avarice, greed, envy, jealousy and many other fruits that should never be named among believers. Our sister here is not only portraying her church in a poor light, but the christian faith.
It is our prayers and desires, too, that churches in Nigeria should trim down their teaching on materialism and wealth as the only measure that shows you are blessed of God. When sins are forgiven that alone is a big blessing from God. When we are accepted as the sons of God that, too is a blessing that can not be quantified. When our lives are transformed by the sound teaching from the preacher and outsiders now see the difference, that is also a blessing. There is no society where all citizens can not be millionaires. But as Christians we are ought to be contented with whatever we have and do our duties diligently. Perhaps it is time pastors and preachers should emphasize what matters henceforth:1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Romans 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. This is a unique state of blessing; to have our iniquities forgiven, to be in an excellent relationship with our creator. He that have ears let him hear.
1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. This message must return to the church of today, we have deliberately left it out of today's sermon but we can not be selective nor delude the word of God.
Meanwhile, let us continue to pray for our sister to find repentance and newness of live in Christ Jesus. whether she is acquitted or found guilty for many have found true meaning of life while in distress and incarceration.
