The voice of God [2]
Matthew 3:16-17, And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. These were the only times that God’s voice was heard by all without an intermediary like Moses did during the giving of the Ten Commandments. God directly announced his son and his mission to the world by Himself, Jehovah. And John the Baptist was chosen as a forerunner too. SeeMatthew 3:2-3 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Today individuals also lay hear the voice of God, but that should be subject to biblical lenses; one thing is for sure, and that is God, these days speaks to us through the word in the bible. Whatever God speaks to those who hear directly there must make sure that what instruction or direction that they must have be given should never contradict his word otherwise that is not the voice of God. The apostle John speaking in this regard, enjoins Christians to test the spirit:1 John 4:1, Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. You try these spirits by comparing their instructions to what is laid out in the bible. In another similar warning and Apostle Paul use this as a way of commendation said in Acts 17:11, These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Just like these brethren in that city, we ought to search the scriptures like they did to see if the voices we hear and the spirit to spoke to us and if what they say or prompts us to do agrees with what God says to us in the bible. Jesus said in the book of John 17:17, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
